The Oswego Canal is an important part of the State Canal System and brought people and goods through from NYC to the Great Lakes, the midwest and beyond. George Gobel, a shipbuilder, built 35 different ships including barges, yachts, tugs, schooners and other craft at the site where the Maritime Museum and Dry Dock stand today. Gobel was born in 1819 on this date and lived well into the 1900's.Festivities will begin at 1pm and include games, music, storytelling, refreshments and birthday cake!
